100,000 Americans sign bike pledge
Posted on Oct 11th 2010 | Advocacy, Blog,Planet Bike ally peopleforbikes.org is on a mission to sign up 1,000,000 Americans in support of better biking in the US. We are well on our way with more than 100,000 pledges made. Here’s the meat of the pledge:
“I am for bikes. I’m for long rides and short rides. I’m for commuting to work, weekend rides, racing, riding to school, or just a quick spin around the block. I believe that no matter how I ride, biking makes me happy and is great for my health, my community and the environment we all share…”
This is important to help biking get the respect it deserves. While more than 57 million Americans ride bikes every year, only a tiny fraction of them think of themselves as bicyclists.peopleforbikes.org does two things…it helps people see themselves as bicyclists (and so to pay attention to biking issues) and it shows our elected policy makers how large a group we are and thus that we deserve our fair share of respect on the road, in the laws and in the budget.
