Bike to Work Week Recap
Posted on Jun 16th 2009 | Advocacy, Bike Life, Blog, Events,Another Bike to Work Week is in the books thanks to the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (BFW). As always the week was jam packed with plenty of bicycle related activities well attended by employees of Planet Bike. Several Planet Bike members met at Hillington Green last Tuesday, June 9th for a police escorted bike ride to work with Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. The ride was followed up with a press conference at 101 King St.
The Wednesday morning commuter station on the Capitol City Trail at Broom Street featured Planet Bike’s infamous Bacon on the Path heavily supported from our friends at Nueske’s! We actually managed to blast through 12 pounds of bacon not to mention several dozen donuts, a mound of fruit and 300 cups of coffee from our comrades at Just Coffee. The station was made complete with the BFW info booth and mechanical support from Williamson Bicycle Works. The Bike to the Mallards Game brought a great close to Wednesday’s events as a couple Planet Bike employees participated in the tailgating activities.
Friday afternoon we took a group ride from Planet Bike HQ to Vilas Park in search of the Bike to Work Week Final Fiesta. The BFW outdid themselves once again with pizza and beverages, not to mention music by Earl Foss’ Brown Derby.
Another Bike to Work Week in the archives reminds us of the importance of commuting by bicycle in our cities making them stronger and safer places to ride. Until next year..
